Palm City is an unincorporated, census-designated community in Martin County, Florida, on the Treasure Coast just west of Stuart. It sits along the St. Lucie River, whose North and South forks thread through the area and give much of the community its defining character. With about 26,000 residents, Palm City functions as one of Martin County's largest residential areas, known for its golf communities, waterfront homes, and highly regarded schools. The area began as an agricultural settlement in the early 1900s, when growers raised citrus, pineapples, and vegetables and relied on the St. Lucie River for transportation and trade. The Martin County School District, an A-rated system, serves local students through schools such as Palm City Elementary and Hidden Oaks Middle. Stuart's beaches, downtown, and cultural amenities lie just minutes east, and Port St. Lucie's larger services are nearby to the north.
